The Law-Firm is no longer a Bengal. Jason La Canfora initially broke the news, and the organization announced it shortly there-after. Head Coach Marvin Lewis said, “It’s very difficult to release such a fine player and person as BenJarvus”.
BenJavrus Green-Ellis was an undrafted rookie in 2008 when he made his debut with the New England Patriots. After spending 2008-2011 with the Patriots, Green-Ellis signed a three-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. On September 23, 2012 in a game against the Washington Redskins, Green-Ellis recorded his first ever career fumble, ending a very impressive record of 589 touches without a fumble to start an NFL career.
During his time in Cincinnati, Green-Ellis racked up 1,850 yards at 3.7 yards per carry. But with the Bengals seeking to get a more dominant ground game established, they used high draft picks in back-to-back years in order to bring in some dynamic backs to incorporate into their offense. That left Green-Ellis the odd-man out, and with a salary of only $2.3million, it was an easy decision for the Bengals to make.
In 2013, Green-Ellis carried the ball 220 times for a total of 756 yards and seven touchdowns. Up until this point, Green-Ellis has a total of 3,914 career rushing yards, at 3.9 average yards per carry with 42 rushing touchdowns.
We wish BenJarvus the best of luck in the future as he will no doubt sign with a new team soon.
